Type species. Mutilla lunulata Spinola, 1851 (female), by original designation.

Taxonomic history. Valid generic name.

Sex association. The male of the type species has not been recognized; the presumed males of other species were associated and described by Mickel, 1938: 351.

Distribution. Neotropical.
