Various small groups were recovered with considerably high support but still doubtful phylogenetic positioning. For example, the clade Xenotriphleba dentystilata + Beyermyia is supported by clear synapomorphies in the hypopygium and wing, such as the swollen Rs. However, the group formed by these taxa and amber genus C is still weakly supported as is their position as sister-group to the remaining Euphorida. The distant placement of Xenotriphleba antiqua relative to the close-affinity between X. dentystilata and Beyermyia indicates the need of re-delimitation of Xenotriphleba .

Another example, the clade Conicera + Contopteryx + Darwiniphora was obtained with considerable support, as in Brown et al. (2015), but with a doubtful placement, being recovered in preliminary analyses closer to the Bothroprosopa -group. The Afrotropical genera Brachyselia and Plethysmochaeta also seem to form a stable clade. Their grouping is supported by the following synapomorphies: Rs with row of setulae, developed left surstylus, short costal and anepisternum setulae extending posteriorly to the posterior furrow (a new condition recognized here in character 27, state 4).

Euryphora + Aenigmatias living and extinct species also form a well-supported clade in spite of their considerable phenotypic differences. All have a characteristically elevated dorsal part of anepisternum and reduced frontal setae. Euryphora and A. bisetosus share homologous conditions in tibial chaetotaxy characters. Synapomorphies of the clade A. bisetosus + Aenigmatias sp. + A. tertiarius include a long anepisternal seta, the presence of R 2 + 3 and more than two pairs of scutellar setae. The position of this clade as sister to the Thaumatoxena -group can also be considered doubtful considering its low support.
