Identification source. Compared with voucher specimens from China ( Chen 1957) [ TARI].

Previous record. This subspecies was recorded from Ho Chi Minh by Williams et al. (2019b).

Distribution. China. Thailand. Vietnam: Bac Kan *, Hanoi *, Quang Ninh *, Hoa Binh *, Ha Tinh *, Ho Chi Minh, Ba Ria-Vung Tau *, Kien Giang *.

Occurrence in Vietnam. January, April, May, July, August, October, November. South China-Vietnam subtropical evergreen forests, Northern Indochina subtropical forests, Red River freshwater swamp forests, Northern Annamites rain forests, Southern Vietnam lowland dry forests, Southeast Indochina dry evergreen forests, and Tonle Sap-Mekong peat swamp forests ecoregions. 30–78 m alt.

Sex association. This subspecies was initially described from the male only. The female was associated and diagnosed by Mickel (1933c) based on a pair in copula.

Remarks. The type subspecies is distributed in Taiwan. In China, the pygidial sculpture of this subspecies varies greatly ( Chen 1957), suggesting that Tr. fuscipennis may comprise two or more cryptic species. The Vietnamese and Thai specimens, however, all seem to present a similar rugose pygidial form and seem to be conspecific ( Williams et al. 2019b).
