Triplaris pachau Mart. ex Meisn. (1855: 51–52) var. longipetala Meisn. (1856: 177) View in CoL
Type (designated here):—[ BRAZIL]. Rio Maranhão, (fr) Pohl 2366 (lectotype: OXF [ OXF 9174, digital image!]).
Notes:— The specimen cited in the protologue is “Ad Rio Maranhao (Pohl! in herb. Caes. Vindob. et Zuccar.)”. We were unable to locate any Polygonaceae specimens of Pohl at W (Vindobona), but found a Pohl specimen at OXF ( OXF 9174) originally identified as “ Triplaris ”. The specimen label reads “ HRB. MUSEI PALAT. VINDOB.” with the collection locality given as “Rio Maranhão ”. This appears to be the specimen referenced in the protologue, but because the remainder of the herbarium is also referenced, we cannot be certain this was the only specimen considered in the writing of the description. As a result, this specimen is a lectotype (Art. 9.1 of ICBN).
Brandbyge (1986) does not treat this variety and it is unclear where it fits taxonomically within the genus.
