Heads 10-22 mm in fruit, globose. Calyx 4-4- 5 mm in flower, with teeth longer than the tube, 8-10 mm in fruit, concealing all or most of the persistent corolla. 2n = 16. Probably throughout the range of the species, but possibly absent from much of S. Europe.
