California Tonguefish. To 21 cm ( 8.3 in) TL ( Miller and Lea 1972). Barkley Sound ( 48°56’N, 125°23’W), Vancouver Island (Gavin Hanke, pers. comm. to M.L.) and Washington ( Dinnel and Rogers 1986) to Gulf of California ( Robertson and Allen 2002); Chiapas, Mexico ( González-Acosta et al. 2018); also reported off northern Peru ( Chirichigno and Vélez 1998) . Benthic; depth: intertidal to 463 m ( 1,519 ft) (min.: Carlisle et al. 1960; max.: DFO). Also seen as Symphurus atricaudus .
