Paratypes ( IBSP [ Chagas 2000]); type locality: Pucará , near Ja n, Cajamarca Edo., Peru .
Original rank: subspecies of S. gigantea L., 1758. Current rank and status: synonym of S. galapagoensis Bollman, 1889 ( Shelley & Kiser 2000).

Remarks: Neither Shelley & Kiser (2000) nor Chagas (2000) was able to obtain and examine the holotype, which is number 10.035 in Wolfgang Weyrauch’s private collection, supposedly in Lima, Peru.
