Holotype: not known to exist, not present at MNHP (J.J. Geoffroy, pers. comm.), not found in 2005; type locality: Brazil.
Original rank: species. Current rank and status: synonym of S. subspinipes Leach, 1815 ( Kohlrausch 1878, 1879, 1881; Kraepelin 1903; Brölemann 1909; Attems 1930; Bücherl 1939, 1942 a).
Remarks: I was not able to obtain a copy of this publication; the page number,
343, was taken from Attems (1930), and the citation was kindly provided by A. Minelli and M. Uliana. Scolopendra newporti was omitted by Bücherl (1974).
