Pyrrhomutilla Ashmead, 1899 . J. N. Y. Ent. Soc. 7: 56, 59. Male, female.
Gender. Feminine.
Type species. Sphaerophthalmia [sic!] anthophora Ashmead in Davidson, 1897 (male, female; syntypes), by original designation (misspelled as anthophorae) (junior subjective synonym of Mutilla unicolor Cresson, 1865 (male) according to Ferguson, 1962: 4 and 1967: 19). (The name of the type species was spelled both as anthophorae and anthophora in the part of the paper authored by Davidson, but as anthophora in Ashmead’s description; both spellings have since been used, but anthophora was that used by Ferguson, 1967 as first taxonomic reviser and is therefore to be preferred.)

Junior subjective synonym of Photopsis Blake, 1886 according to Bradley, 1916: 191. Junior subjective synonym of Sphaeropthalma Blake, 1871 according to Pitts et al., 2004: 224. Subjectively invalid name.
Sex association. The type species was described from both sexes by Ashmead in Davidson, 1897: 5.
Distribution. Nearctic.
