Source. In the binomen Polia dugesii by Quatrefages (1849: 210, pl. 13, figs 11–13).
Type locality. Canal Saint-Martin in Paris, France ( Fig. 9 View FIGURE 9 ) .
Etymology. A masculine noun in the genitive singular, after Antoine Louis Dugès (1797–1838), a French obstetrician and naturalist who discovered and reported freshwater nemerteans for the first time in the history of research.
Remarks. The monostiliferous hoplonemertean proboscis( Quatrefages1849, pl.13,fig.13) and the characteristic six eyes ( Quatrefages 1849, pl. 13, fig. 12) depicted in the original illustration, along with its occurrence in a freshwater environment, undoubtedly indicate that the nominal species Polia dugesii belongs to the genus Prostoma . Polia dugesii was transferred to Emea Leidy, 1850 by Leidy (1851: 288). Bürger (1895: 590) placed “ Polia dugèsi ” [sic] in the synonymy of Tetrastemma clepsinoides ( Dugès, 1828) . Later, Bürger (1904: 68) listed Polia dugesii in the synonymy of Prostoma clepsinoides Dugès, 1828 . Prostoma dugesii was regarded as a nomen dubium by Stiasny-Wijnhoff (1938: 224, as “ P. dugèsi ”) and also by Gibson & Moore (1976: 194, as “ dugesi ”). Polia dugesii is now once again placed in the synonymy of P. clepsinoides .
