Poecilimon syriacus Brunner von Wattenwyl, 1891 View in CoL
Material examined. Syria: Gebellie, 6 males, 6 females (leg. Leuthner); Ladakia , 1 male, 1 female (leg. Leuthner) ; Lebanon: Tripolis , 3 males (leg. Leuthner) ; Israel: Jerusalem, 1 male (lectotype), 2 females (leg. Leuthner) ; Turkey: Söört b. Bitlis [Siirt Province], 7 males, 2 females (leg. Sikora) ( NMW) ; Syria: Syrien, 1 male, 1 female (leg. Leuthner) ( MfN) .
Remarks. Brunner (1891: 29), describing this species, gave the type localities as “ Syria (Beirut, Hierosolyma), Bitlis in Asia minore”. In the collection of Brunner (NMW), there is no specimen labelled as “Beirut” and “Hierosolyma”. However, some specimens from Tripoli (a city, N of Beirut) and Jerusalem are available. The other “type locality” is “Söört b. Bitlis ” in the label. Söört [Siirt] is a Province of Turkey in the present day. Harz (1969: 146) published the type locality as Beirut. However, this is not a valid lectotype designation. Heller et al. (2008) designated the male from Jerusalem [Hierosolyma] as the lectotype. Interestingly, this species was not listed in the Palestinian and Israeli fauna ( Bodenheimer 1935; Ayal et al. 1999).
