Perigrapha (Perigrapha) centralasiae Bartel, 1906 View in CoL ,
( Figs 9–16 View Figures 9–16 , 20–24 View Figures 17–20 View Figures 21–24 , 27 View Figures 25–27 )
Perigrapha cincta v. centralasiae Bartel, 1906 View in CoL , Insektenbörse, Leipzig, 23: 63 (Type locality: [ Turkmenistan, Ashkhabad] “ Asia centr., Aschabad ”).
= Perigrapha duktana Draudt View in CoL in Seitz, 1934, Die Gross-Schmetterlinge der Erde, Supplement 3: 114, plate 18, row g (Type locality: “Duktan, Sarafschan”).
Type material examined. Photographs of the holotype ( Fig. 21 View Figures 21–24 ): male, “Asia centr. | Aschckab[ad] | 1898” / pink label “Type | v. centralasiae Bart. | ♂ ” / red black- framed label “Type” / “Zool. Mus. | Berlin” / “Genit. praep. | Kononenko, 1991” / “ Perigrapha centralasiae | Bartel, 1906 | Holotypus, [slide] NO: 4067 | det. M. Hreblay ” ( MfN); photographs of the holotype of duktana ( Fig. 22 View Figures 21–24 ): male, [ Tajikistan or Uzbekistan, Zeravshan Range] “Duktan | Sarafschan | Juni” / pale brick red label “Type | Perigrapha | duktana | ♂ Draudt.” / “129.” / “ P. centralasiae Bart. | = ductana Drdt | syn. n. | Kononenko, 1991” / “Genit. praep. | Kononenko, 1991” / “ Perigrapha duktana | Draudt, 1934 | Holotypus | [slide] NO: 4066 | det. M. Hreblay ” ( MfN) .
Additional material examined: series of both sexes from Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and South and Southeast Kazakhstan ( HNHM, BBM, CAV, STP, ZISP).
Remark. The species is highly polymorphic in its forewing colouration and size. The populations of P. centralasiae from Hissar Range in Tajikistan ( Figs 15, 16 View Figures 9–16 , 20 View Figures 17–20 ), where P. heidi is also found, are larger, equal in size to the latter species and therefore the reliable identification requires an examination of the genitalia structures.
Distribution. The species is widespread in Central Asia and currently known from Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, eastern Uzbekistan, and southern Kazakhstan.
Acknowledgements
Sergey Titov expresses his sincere thanks to Alexey Matov ( ZISP) for his kind assistance during the work at ZISP collection, and Andrey Shapovalov ( Institute of Zoology , Almaty, Kazakhstan) for organising the collecting trip in Southeast Kazakhstan in the early spring of 2024. The authors are indebted to Balázs Benedek (Mohács, Hungary) for a valuable discussion, data from his rich research collection and photos of the type specimens of Perigrapha centralasiae provided .
The study of Sergey Titov and Ruslan Rakhimov was funded by Science Committee of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan (Program No. BR21882199, “Inventory of wild animals of arid territories of the Balkhash- Alakol basin with an assessment of threats to their conservation and sustainable use.”). Anton Volynkin and Balázs Tóth, while performing this work, received no specific grant from any funding agencies.
