Distribution and habitat— Peltogyne gracilipes is an Amazonian species endemic to the island of Maracá, in Roraima, where it is found in monodominant formations ( Lewis & Owen 1989) ( Fig 5 View FIGURE 5 ).

Taxonomic comments— Peltogyne gracilipes is a large tree (20–38 m) with elliptic, falcate leaflets and flowers with a slender, delicate pedicel and is restricted to the Amazon. Ducke (1949) described it as similar to P. pauciflora , since both of them have relatively small leaflets with an oblique base, but P. pauciflora is a tree of a smaller size (3–12 m) and has oblong and not falcate leaflets.

Etymology—gracilis, graceful or slender; pes= feet. The name alludes to the shape of the pedicel.
