Replaced name:— Calyptranthes variabilis var. rubella O. Berg (1857 –1859: 49). Calyptranthes rubella (O.Berg) D. Legrand (in Legrand & Klein 1971: 535). Myrcia rubella (O.Berg) A.R. Lourenço & E. Lucas (2018: 81) nom. illeg., not Myrcia rubella Cambessèdes (1832 –1933: 317).

Type:— BRAZIL. Rio Grande do Sul: ad Itanaré , prov. Rio Grande do Sul, Sellow s.n. (possible holotype B †) . Neotype:— BRAZIL. Santa Catarina, Florianópolis, Klein & Bresolin 6590 ( FLOR!, designated by Araújo & Lucas 2013: 437 ; isoneotypes HBR , MO , MVM ).

Myrcia rubella (O.Berg) A.R.Lourenço & E.Lucas is an illegitimate later homonym for Myrcia rubella Cambessèdes , published in 1832–1833. Lucas et al. (2016) treated Myrcia rubella Cambessèdes as a synonym of M. myrtillifolia De Candolle (1828: 250) . Myrcia myrtillifolia is clearly different from Calyptranthes rubella , first treated as a variety of C. variabilis by Berg (1857 –1859) and later elevated to species level by Legrand & Klein (1971).
