BO: Cronberg et al. 1995 [Okavango Delta], as Phacus pyrum (Ehrenberg) Stein. — MO: Rino 1969 [Maputo Province: Namaacha, small pond in the bed of the Impamputo river, next to the bridge at 48.9 km of the national road N2, rare, 15 October 1968, J. Rino 348], as Phacus pyrum (Ehrenberg) Stein ; Rino 1972 [Maputo Province: Namaacha, the exit from Namaacha, on the road to Matianine, in a puddle, 15 October 1968, L. Rino 347; Maputo Province: Maputo, next to the bridge over the Fúti river, in the ponds, 4 November 1968, J. Rino 356], as Phacus cochleatus Pochmann ; Rino 1972 [395-B], as Phacus trypanon Pochmann. — SA: Fritsch, Rich 1930 [Northern Cape Province, Newlands (now Delportshoop), dark-green growth from sunny shallow furrow, December 1922; Northern Cape Province, Newlands (now Delportshoop), floating in sun in water tank, February 1923, leg. Elliott Young], as Phacus pyrum (Ehrenberg) Stein ; Huber-Pestalozzi 1929 [Western Cape Province, pool near Caledon, 26 September 1926], as Phacus pyrum (Ehrenberg) Stein ; Huber-Pestalozzi 1930 [Western Cape Province, Knysna Forest, near Harkerville, a shallow swamp about 30 m in diameter, slightly brownish water, abundant hydrophytes, leg. G. Huber-Pestalozzi, 7 October 1926], as Phacus pyrum (Ehrenberg) Stein ; Fritsch, Rich 1937 [Mpumalanga Province, near Belfast, Belfast Pan, 9 October 1913], as Phacus pyrum (Ehrenberg) Stein.

Note. In Rino (1972), Pl. 6 fig. 10-11 it is probably an illustration of Monomorphina parapyrum Kim, Triemer & Shin ( Kim et al. 2013). Most species in the genus Monomorphina can only be identified based on molecular characters, including this one (see Kosmala et al. 2007).

M. trypanon has never been formally synonymized because the diagnostic feature of the taxa (dual pellicle ribs) has never been seen in modern studies (see discussion in Kosmala et al. 2007) so it is proposed that it should be a synonym of M. pyrum . In this case the illustration in Rino (1972: Pl. 6, figs. 8-9) is that of Monomorphina pyrum ( Kosmala et al. 2007) .
