Comments: Our figure is most comparable to those depicted in figure 2 of M. mahabuleshwarensis var. dichotoma Smith in Prescott et al. (1977). They stated that the lateral lobes are quite variable in that they can be reduced to the point that they resemble Micrasterias americana (Ehrenberg) Ralfs.
Distribution: A new variteal record for Indonesia. Micrasterias mahabuleshwarensis var. dichotoma has previosuly been reported from North America, South America, Africa, Asia, Australia, and has been classified as tropical in distribution here.
