Gender. Feminine.

Type species. Mutilla iracunda Cresson, 1902 (female), by original designation.

Taxonomic history. Valid generic name.

Sex association. The male of the type species has not been recognized; the male of another species was associated and described (in a key to genera) by Quintero & Cambra, 1996a: 352.

Distribution. Neotropical.
