17. mapochi Sanchez & Moretto, 1988 View in CoL
Source. In the binomen Koinoporus mapochi by Sanchez & Moretto (1988: 195).
Type locality. Mapocho River , Talagante, central Chile ( Fig. 9 View FIGURE 9 ) .
Etymology. A masculine noun in the genitive singular, meaning “of the Mapocho River”.
Remarks. Koinoporus mapochi is the type species of Koinoporus Sanchez & Moretto, 1988 (gender masculine), fixed by original designation (Article 68.2). Koinoporus was considered distinctive from Prostoma mainly by the following three characteristics: i) the rhynchodaeum and the oesophagus open into a common atrium; ii) the stomach and the anterior intestine possess helicoidal somatic musculature; and iii) being ovoviviparous. The taxonomic validity of these characters is evaluated in the Discussion below. Koinoporus mapochi is herein considered synonymous with P. clepsinoides ; thus, Koinoporus is a junior synonym of Prostoma ; previously, the name mapochi has not been combined with Prostoma .
