87. Ficus floresina Pittier. Bol. Soc. Venez. Ci. Nat. View in CoL 4(30): 58. 1937. TYPE:— VENEZUELA. Aragua: Valle de flores, between San Juan de los Morros and Uberito , 12 September 1927, H. Pittier 12533 (lectotype, designated here: VEN–339!; isolectotypes: G–00222741 [digital image!], NY–00079803!, US–00090053!).
Nomenclatural notes:— Pittier (1937) described this taxon based on a collection by Pittier 12533, but did not specify a herbarium, thus indicating all specimens of that gathering as syntypes (Art. 40.2 Note 1). Berg & Villavicencio (2004) were the first to indicate that the holotype was stored in VEN, but since this happened after 1 January 2001 and they did not use the term “designated here” or an equivalent statement as required by Art. 7.11, their citation did not constitute an effective designation of a lectotype. We designate VEN339 as the lectotype because it represents the most complete and diagnostic specimen.
