72. Ficus elliotiana S. Moore. Trans. Linn. Soc. London, Bot. View in CoL 4: 472. 1895. ≡ Ficus calyptroceras Moore var. elliotiana Chodat. Bull. Soc. Bot. Genève , sér. 2, 11: 256 (1920 [1919]). TYPE:— BRAZIL. Mato Grosso do Sul: Corumbá, January 1891 –1892, B. Balansa 1985 (lectotype, designated here: K–000442982!; isolectotypes: BM–000993302! pro parte, cordate leaves only, fruits in right package). Remaining syntype: PARAGUAY. 30 September 1875, Moore 1040a (BM–000993301! pro parte, cordate leaves only, fruits in left package).
Nomenclatural notes:— S. Moore (1895) cited two specimens on the protologue (Moore 1040a and Balansa 1985), rendering both syntypes. Berg & Villavicencio (2004) cited the “ holotype ” at BM, but since this happened after 1 January 2001 and they did not use the term “designated here” or an equivalent statement as required by Art. 7.11, their citation did not constitute an effective designation of a lectotype. We designate BM000993302 as the lectotype because it represents the most complete and diagnostic specimen.
