Cycloperipsocus rotundatus sp. nov.
( Figs 22–25 View FIGURE 22 View FIGURE 23 View FIGURE 24 View FIGURE 25 )
Diagnosis. Postclypeus without markings or with blurry stripes. Forewing with dusky markings fill the entire cell M2. Phallosome rounded at apex. Paramere with its tip not expanded. Lateral lobe of penis bulb without distinct serrations along outer margin, the spine on its inner margin relatively short and strong.
Description. Male ( Figs 22–23 View FIGURE 22 View FIGURE 23 ). Coloration (preserved in 95% ethanol). Head light brown; vertex with faint markings; frons with a pair of indistinct spots between postclypeus and compound eyes; gena pale cream, bottom 1/3 slightly reddish-brown; postclypeus light brown, sometimes with blurry stripes or a few irregular brown markings along top margin; anteclypeus and labrum brown; maxillary palpus pale cream; ocelli cream white but inner margin reddish-brown, ocellar region light brown; compound eyes black.Antennae: scape light brown, pedicel and flagellum pale cream. Thorax brown; scutellum, postnotum of mesothorax and scutellum of metathorax pale cream. Legs pale cream; fore tibiae and tarsi light brown; pretarsi brown. Wings cream white with taupe markings as in Figs 22C–D View FIGURE 22 ; forewing cell M2 entirely filled with dusky markings; distal half of pterostigma sometimes dark brown. Pregenital abdominal segments cream, with reddish-purple markings on ventral and lateral sides. Terminalia pale gray, a reddish-purple spot present in the middle of clunium.
Morphology. Clunium slightly extended, without any process or serrations. Epiproct semicircular. Paraproct ovoid; posterior lobe ovate; a small piece of sclerite present between paraproct and clunium. Hypandrium simple. Phallosome ( Figs 23C–H View FIGURE 23 ) basally closed, slightly constricted in the middle; aedeagal arch with apex rounded, distal 1/3 hood-like; Paramere with its tip not expanded, inner process absent. Penis bulb consists of a middle thorn and a pair of lateral lobes; lateral lobe expanded into hemispheric shape, outer margin without serrations, inner margin with a strong spine curved outward.
Measurements (in μm) (4 males). B: 1063–1151, BW: 2138, IO: 101–111, d: 152–161, IO/d: 0.63–0.73, f1: 167, FWL: 1675–1749, FWW: 733–759, HWL: 1296–1306, HWW: 456–487, t1: 129–137, t2: 63–66. Number of ctenidia on hind first tarsomere: 12–13.
Female ( Figs 24–25 View FIGURE 24 View FIGURE 25 ). Coloration (preserved in 95% ethanol). Head: vertex pale cream; frons cream with a pair of small spots between postclypeus and compound eyes; gena cream, bottom 1/3 light brown, a reddish-brown spot present rear to compound eye; ocelli cream white but inner margin reddish-brown, ocellar region reddish-brown. Antennae missing. Other parts generally same as male.
Morphology. Epiproct semicircular. Paraproct subtriangular. Subgenital plate ( Figs 25D–E View FIGURE 25 ) with pigmented area V-shaped; egg guide short, outer and distal margin folded inward. Gonapophyses ( Fig. 25F View FIGURE 25 ): ventral valve broadened in middle, narrowing toward apex; dorsal valve broad, oblong, about 1.5 times as long as its width, with a row of setae along distal margin; external valve rectangular, about half the length of dorsal valve, slightly setose.
Measurements (in μm) (4 females). B: 1321–1459, BW: 2092–2187, IO: 220–234, d: 82–95, IO/d: 2.32–2.74, FWL: 1649–1728, FWW: 686–723, HWL: 1271–1307, HWW: 458–466, t1: 114–130, t2: 46–69. Number of ctenidia on hind first tarsomere: 9–10.
Material examined. Holotype male, China: Guizhou, Qiannan, Libo, Maolan Town, Banzhai Village , 13.X.2013, Xingyue Liu ( CAU) . Paratypes: 2 males, 7 females, same as holotype ( CAU) . Other specimens: 1 male, 7 females, China: Guizhou, Qiannan, Libo, Maolan Town, Limingguan , 14.X.2013, Xingyue Liu ( CAU) . 1 female, China: Guizhou, Qiannan, Libo, Maolan Town, Banzhai Village , 13.X.2013, Ding Yang ( CAU) .
Known distribution. China (Guizhou).
Etymology. The specific epithet refers to the rounded tip of paramere which is not expanded into fan-shaped.
Remarks. This new species is characterized by forewing with dusky markings entirely fill the cell M2 and the male paramere with apex not expanded. It is close to C. albimaculatus sp. nov. in characteristics of male penis bulb (the lack of marginal serrations and the strong, curved inner spine on lateral lobe) and female subgenital plate (with pigmented arm truncated at apex rather than bifurcated).
