Recognition Characters. Mediumsized to large, oval, moderately robust; derm fuscorufous; male rostrum, 0.64 as long as body; frons, 0.27 as wide as head across eyes; hind femoral tooth mediumsized, with proximolateral sulcus from base to club; pronotum with basal, diamond shaped, white macula; elytra, with short testaceous vitta on interval 1 distad of scutellum followed by white vitta to apex; sternites 1 and 2 with lateral macula of cretaceous scales.
Description. Male: Length: 5.5 mm. Width: 2.9 mm. Head: Mediumsized, moderately convex, short, almost contiguous to anterior margin of pronotum; eyes flat, large, finely faceted; clothed with narrow, elongate, ochraceous scales dorsally and white scales ventrally. Frons broad, 0.27 as wide as head across eyes; clothed with dense narrow, elongate, ochraceous scales between eyes; with feeble interocular fovea. Rostrum: Length: 3.5 mm. 0.64 as long as body; cylindrical; margins subparallel to antennal insertion, then narrowing to apex; almost straight to antennal insertion, abruptly arcing straight down to apex; dorsal carina from frons to antennal insertion; punctures oval with clavate, ochraceous scales, from frons to antennal insertion; punctures from antennal insertion to apex small, oval and numerous; scrobe lateral; scape inserted in apical half. Antennae: Length: Scape 1.9 mm; Funiculus: segment one 0.45 mm, two 0.45 mm, three 0.25 mm, four 0.2 mm, five 0.15 mm, six 0.15 mm, seven 0.15 mm, club 0.65 mm; funicle 2.1 mm; scape 0.92 as long as funicle; clothed with dense, narrow, elongate, ochraceous scales, with few erect apical setae on each funicular segment; club elongate, suboval, acuminate, segments 1–3 equal in length, 4 short and conical, as long as funicular segments 4–7. Thorax: Length: 1.5 mm. Width: 2.2 mm. 0.69 as long broad as long; disc with margins parallel to past midpoint, then abruptly rounded to narrow constriction; slightly convex in lateral view; disc punctures small, shallow, close together, densely clothed with narrow, elongate, ochraceous, with some white scales mixed; basal macula of white scales proximal to scutellum; feeble macula of white scales anterodorsally; base sinuate, with median declivity to scutellum; mesosternal intercoxal process prominent, clothed with ochraceous scales; scutellum large, as broad as long, impressed, clothed with white scales; mesepimeron densely clothed with clavate scales dorsally and ochraceous scales ventrally; mesepisternum clothed with ochraceous scales; metepisternum clothed with ochraceous scales, with a ventrodistal macula of white scales; metasternum with lateral convex nodule proximal to metacoxae; procoxae clothed with clavate, white scales. Elytra: Length: 3.5 mm. Derm fuscous; striae of moderate depth with narrow, elongate, white and ochraceous, scales; humeri moderately prominent, angular and rounded; intervals broad, flat, densely clothed with narrow, elongate, ochraceous scales, some white scales mixed in with scattered macula of white scales; interval one with short vitta of fuscous scales distad to scutellum; crosshatched scales short some white producing feeble vitta on interval one in distal third; disc flat, except for central declivity to scutellum. Legs: Length of hind femur 2.6 mm, tooth mediumsized, acute, with feeble indication of keel; profemoral tooth small, mesofemoral tooth medium, not as large as hind femoral tooth; all femora moderately clavate, base moderately robust; hind femur with proximolateral sulcus from base to club; clothed with narrow, elongate, ochraceous scales; hind tibiae sinuate; pro and mesouncus large, longer than tarsal claw; metauncus medium, as long as tarsal claw. Abdomen: Derm fuscous; sternite 1 as long as 2 behind coxal cavity with median flat area; sternites 3 and 4 equal in length, combined longer than 5; sternites 1 and 2 with lateral macula of cretaceous scales, with vitta of ochraceous scales on distal lateral aspect of sternite 1; remaining vestiture of clavate, ochraceous scales. Pygidium: Large , clothed with elongate, white, setalike scales. Genitalia: Median lobe of aedeagus 1.4 mm in length, 0.45 mm in width, broad with margins evenly narrow, thin, evenly arced in lateral view, apex abruptly arced down to even acute apex; aedeagal apodeme 1.3 mm in length ( Figs. 76–78 View Figs ).
Female: Length: 5.0– 5.2 mm (mean = 5.1). Width: 2.6–2.8 mm (mean = 2.7). Rostrum: Length: 3.3–3.5 mm (mean = 3.4) scrobe lateral, scape inserted at midpoint. Antennae: Length: Scape 1.2–1.3 mm (mean = 1.25). Funiculus: segment one 0.45 mm, two 0.3 mm, three 0.2 mm, four 0.2 mm, five 0.15 mm, six 0.1 mm, seven 0.1 mm, club 0.6 mm; funicle 1.5 mm; scape 0.84 as long as funicle; club longer than funicular segments 4–7. Thorax: Length: 1.4–1.5 mm (mean = 1.45). Width: 2.0– 2.2 mm (mean 2.1). Disc with central macula of narrow, elongate, white, with a few ochraceous scales. Elytra: Length: 3.2–3.4 mm (mean = 3.3). Confused white macula more numerous than in male. Legs: Length of hind femur 2.3–2.5 mm (mean = 2.4). Abdomen: Sternite 1 with mostly ochraceous lateral macula; sternites 1 and 2 with white vitta. Pygidium: Concealed. Genitalia: Spermatheca ramus elongate, finger like; collum short rounded; cornu evenly thick to blunt rounded apex ( Fig. 79 View Figs ).
Distribution. China: Yunnan Province, Xishuangbanna, 08 May 1958, F. Pu; Fujian Province, Jianyang, 16 May 1960, F. Pu.
Remarks. This new species looks similar to C. maculanigra . However, length of the hind femur and scale pattern separate these two species. Male genitalia will also separate them. A figure of male genitalia for C. maculanigra can be found in Morimoto (1962) Plate 2 figure G. This species is named in honor of the senior author’s grandson Mario.
