Notes:— In the taxonomic studies of C. sect. Xerocalyx ( sensu Irwin & Barneby 1982 ), Fernandes & Nunes (2005) propose that some varieties within the Chamaecrista desvauxii View in CoL complex should be recognized at species level. Among these is Chamaecrista desvauxii var. latistipula View in CoL , which represents the most widely distributed taxon in the group. Chamaecrista latistipula View in CoL exhibits distinctive features, such as broad leaflets (20–46 mm long × 10–23 mm wide) and the largest stipules within the complex (15–26 mm long × 10–20 mm wide) ( Irwin & Barneby 1982). Both leaves and leaflets are usually glabrous, displaying bright green, blue-green, or glaucescent hues ( Irwin & Barneby 1982) ( Fig. 3C–D View FIGURE 3 ). However, when Fernandes & Nunes (2005) made the species combination they failed to cite the page of the basionym in their reference, contrary to Article 41.5 of the International Code of Nomenclature ( Turland et al. 2018). Therefore, we propose here a new combination in compliance with the Botanical Nomenclature Code, following the species concept adopted by Bentham (1870) and Fernandes & Nunes (2005). The type material locality was verified using Urban’s itineraries ( Martius 1840). It was confirmed that Riedel never visited the state of Ceará, and based on Urban’s records, the locality mentioned in the type material corresponds to a specific region within the state of Minas Gerais. For further information on the species, including its description, morphology, images and distribution, see Fernandes & Nunes (2005) and Rando et al. (2020).
