Genus Cardiohypnus Fleutiaux, 1928

Cardiohypnus beesoni Fleutiaux, 1928 SDI

Cardiohypnus beesoni Fleutiaux, 1928a: 286 (original description; published type locality: Siwaliks, India); Cate, 2007: 187 (catalogue; “UP” as India: Uttaranchal, Uttar Pradesh); Gupta et al., 2018: 502 (catalogue; “2B” as India: Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand).

Type Locality. India: Sivalik, Dehradun District , Uttarakhand [North East India: Siwaliks, Dehra-Dun] .

Type Depository. Type, SU (??).

Material examined. Two specimens were examined from Dehradun District , Uttarakhand ( FRID) .

Distribution in India. Uttarakhand (Dehradun District).

General Distribution. India.

Remark. The type material may be housed in MNHN, but verification was not possible. As the presence of this species in Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh requires confirmation, these localities are not included here. The species is considered endemic to India.

Cardiohypnus brancucci Dolin, 1992 SDI

Cardiohypnus brancucci Dolin, 1992: 218 (original description; published type locality: Gangani, India; another locality- India: Himachal Pradesh); Korneev & Cate, 2005: 13 (type catalogue); Cate, 2007: 187 (catalogue; “UP” as India: Uttaranchal, Uttar Pradesh); Gupta et al., 2018: 502 (catalogue; “2B” as India: Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand).

Type Locality. India: Gangnani, Uttarkashi District , Uttarakhand [Gangani, Uttar Pradesh] .

Type Depository. Holotype, M ( NHMB); 3 Paratypes, 3 M ( MNHN, SIZK).

Distribution in India. Himachal Pradesh (Kullu District), Uttarakhand (Garhwal Division, Uttarkashi District).

General Distribution. India, Nepal ( Cate 2007).

Remark. Known only from the male specimens. As the presence of this species in Uttar Pradesh requires confirmation, this locality is not included here.

Cardiohypnus mirabilis ( Candèze, 1860) SDI

Cardiophorus mirabilis Candèze, 1860: 141 (original description; published type locality: Indes Orientales); Gemminger & Harold, 1869: 1550 (catalogue; “ India or.”); Candèze, 1891: 126 (catalogue; “Hindoustan”); Candèze, 1892: 492 (distributional record; India: Jharkhand); Schwarz, 1906: 166 (catalogue; “Hindustan”); Schenkling, 1925: 239 (catalogue; “Hindostan [sic]”); Douglas, 2017: 115 (designated Lectotype; “ Inde or.”).

Cardiohypnus mirabilis ( Candèze, 1860) : Fleutiaux, 1928a: 284, 285 (established Cardiohypnus ; transferred from Cardiophorus View in CoL ; distributional record; India: Bihar, Uttarakhand); Douglas, 2017: 110 (distributional record; India: Uttarakhand).

Type Locality. East India * [Indes or. = Indes Orientales] .

Type Depository. Lectotype, SU ( NHML).

Material examined. 17 specimens were examined from Almora & Dehradun districts, Uttarakhand ( FRID) .

Distribution in India. Bihar (Samastipur District), Jharkhand (Gumla District), Uttarakhand (Almora District, Dehradun District, Nainital District).

General Distribution. Afghanistan, India, Nepal, Pakistan ( Cate 2007; Nemeth & Platia 2014).

Remark. The presence of this species in Uttarakhand, India, is confirmed. Pusa is a small village located in the Samastipur District of Bihar. Based on the information provided by Candèze (1892: 481) and Hayek (1973: 273), the locality is added as Jharkhand.

Cardiohypnus spatulatus ( Vats & Chauhan, 1993) SDI comb. nov.

Horistonotus spatulatus Vats & Chauhan, 1993: 37 (original description; published type locality: Chail, India; another locality- India: Jammu & Kashmir , Uttarakhand); Cate, 2007: 208 (considered as Erroneous Assignment; classified under Negastriinae incertae sedis; catalogue; “HP” as India: Himachal Pradesh; “KA” as India: Kashmir ; “UP” as India: Uttaranchal, Uttar Pradesh).

Type Locality. India: Chail, Solan District , Himachal Pradesh .

Type Depository. Holotype, M (??); Allotype, F (??); 95 Paratypes, 42 M, 53 F (??).

Distribution in India. Himachal Pradesh (Kinnaur District, Kullu District, Mandi District, Solan District), Jammu & Kashmir (Doda District), Uttarakhand (Champawat District, Pithoragarh District, Rudraprayag District).

General Distribution. India.

Remark. The type material for Horistonotus spatulatus is not deposited in FRID and may be housed in IARI; however, verification was not possible. As the presence of this species in Uttar Pradesh requires confirmation, this locality is not included here. Vats & Chauhan (1993: 37) described Horistonotus spatulatus with morphological characters and an aedeagus structure that do not support its placement in the American genus Horistonotus ( Douglas 2017) . Based on the original description and illustration of the aedeagus ( Vats & Chauhan 1993: 37–38, Fig. 6 View FIGURES 1–6 ), the species is herein transferred to the genus Cardiohypnus , and we propose Cardiohypnus spatulatus ( Vats & Chauhan, 1993) comb. nov. Morphologically, this species is closely related to Cardiohypnus mirabilis ( Candèze, 1860) and Cardiohypnus brancucci Dolin, 1992 . C. spatulatus is considered endemic to India.

Cardiohypnus stephensi Fleutiaux, 1928 SDI

Cardiohypnus stevensi : Fleutiaux, 1928a: 286 (incorrect original spelling, lapsus calami - ICZN 1999: Art. 33.5.1; original description; published type locality: Tista river-Sikkim to Bengal, India; another locality- India: West Bengal).

Cardiohypnus stephensi Fleutiaux, 1928a : Cate, 2007: 187 (catalogue; “SD” as India: Sikkim, Darjeeling District); Gupta et al., 2018: 502 (catalogue; “2C” as India: Sikkim, Darjeeling District).

Type Locality. India: Teesta [Tista] river, Sikkim to West Bengal.

Type Depository. Type, SU ( MNHN) .

Distribution in India. Sikkim **, West Bengal (Darjeeling District).

General Distribution. India, Nepal ( Cate 2007).

Remark. The type material is likely housed in MNHN, but verification was not possible. In the key, Fleutiaux (1928a: 285) referred to this species as stephensi , while in the description it was listed as stevensi . As the species is dedicated to H. Stephens, the name is treated here as Cardiohypnus stephensi .

Cardiohypnus wittmeri Dolin, 1992 SDI

Cardiohypnus wittmeri Dolin, 1992: 215 (original description; published type locality: Zojila-Drass, India; another locality- India: Jammu & Kashmir ); Korneev & Cate, 2005: 25 (type catalogue); Cate, 2007: 187 (catalogue; “KA” as India: Kashmir ); Gupta et al., 2018: 502 (catalogue; “2A” as India: Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir ).

Type Locality. India: Zoji La-Drass , Kargil District, Ladakh .

Type Depository. Holotype, M ( NHMB); 8 Paratypes, 5 M, 3 F ( NHMB, SIZK).

Distribution in India. Jammu & Kashmir (Ganderbal District), Ladakh (Kargil District).

General Distribution. India, Pakistan ( Dolin 1992).

Remark. As the presence of this species in Himachal Pradesh requires confirmation, this locality is not included here.
