Planta no almohadillada, con tallos erectos o geniculado-ascendentes. Panícula ovoide, blanca. Lema densamente peloso. 2 n = 14*. Dunas y pastos de terófitos en substrato arenoso, margoso o calcáreo; 0-1300 m. (III)IV-VI. Islas y zonas próximas al litoral de la Región Mediterránea. S y E de España peninsular e Islas Baleares.
