Type material

Remarks

Bolívar (1919) originally designated as the holotype a male from Vallvidrera (using the term “Tipo”, Article 73.1.1.). Subsequently, he mentions two other localities, Montseny and Vilafranca del Penedès, also in the province of Barcelona. In light of the range in body length given in the description, the studied material originally consisted of a number of specimens ( Bolívar, 1919, states neither how many specimens nor the place of deposit). We thus deduce that the author based his description of this new taxon on specimens from these three localities.

Box 16 in the MNCNM collection contains the specimen from the type series whose labels are transcribed by Fresneda & Salgado (2006, 2016); in our visit to this collection we observed that a red label with the printed inscription “ Holotipo ” has been added. We also found at least one specimen from Montseny (not identified as belonging to the type series) whose label of origin is almost identical to that of specimen MZB 78-2547 and to the type specimen deposited in the MNHNP (box 59) mentioned by Fresneda & Salgado (2006, 2016). The collection dates on these labels are, respectively, June 1916 (MNCNM), 9 June 1916 (MNHNP) and 8 June 1916 (MCNB).

Specimens MZB 78-2546 and MZB 78-2547 have labels of origin hand-written by Zariquiey and red labels with the printed inscription “ Typus ”. Specimen MZB 78-2546 also has a determination label hand-written by Bolívar with the inscription “TIPOS”; its collection label contains the date “XI-15” [November 1915], possibly due to an error (the original description only states that the material was collected in April and June). The specimen MZB 78-1447 bears a label with the hand-written inscription “TIPO” and other red label with the inscription “CoTypus” (the letters “Co” handwritten, and the word “ Typus ” printed). The non-printed part of the collection label was hand-written by Zariquiey (collection date 24 june 1917). This specimen has been cited by Lagar (1954), Fresneda & Salgado (2006) and Fresneda & Salgado (2016) who also transcribed its associated labels.
