Aspergillus brunneoviolaceus Bat. & H. Maia View in CoL , Anais Soc. Biol. Pernambuco 13: 91 (1955) ( Figure 8 View FIGURE 8 )

MycoBank No. MB292838

Classification: Aspergillus subgen. Circumdati sect. Nigri ser. Japonici .

Description: Colony diam (25 ºC, 7 d, in mm): CREA 26–30; CYA>70; CYA 30˚C>70; CYA 37˚C 12–26; CY20S 64–68; CZ 55–57; DG18 26–30; MEA 60–65; MEA 30˚C 66–68; MEA 37˚C 2–3; MEAbl 50–55; M20S;>70; OA 60; YES>70.

Colony characters (25 ˚C 7 d): CYA: Colony surface velutinous; margin irregular; mycelium white (1A1); sporulation dense, brown (6E4); exudates and soluble pigments absent; reverse pale yellow (4A3) at centre, white (1A1) at margin. CYA20S: Colony surface velutinous; margin irregular; mycelium white (1A1); sporulation dense, brown (7E4); exudates and soluble pigments absent; reverse white (1A1). CZ: Colony surface velutinous, mycelium white (1A1); sporulation absent; exudates and soluble pigments absent; reverse hyaline. DG18: Colony surface velutinous, mycelium white (1A1); sporulation absent; exudates and soluble pigments absent; reverse hyaline. MEA : Colony surface velutinous; margin irregular; mycelium white (1A1); sporulation high, brown (7E4); exudates and soluble pigments absent; reverse yellowish white (4A2). MEAbl: Colony surface velutinous; margin irregular; mycelium white (1A1); sporulation high, brown (7E4); exudates and soluble pigments absent; reverse yellowish white (4A2). M20S: Colony surface velutinous; margin irregular; mycelium white (1A1); sporulation high, greyish brown (7E4); exudates and soluble pigments absent; reverse yellowish white (4A2). OA: Colony surface velutinous, margin irregular; mycelium white (1A1); sporulation moderate, dark brown (8F4); reverse white (1A1). YES: Colony surface velutinous, irregularly sulcate, margin irregular; mycelium white (1A1); sporulation moderate, brown (5F4); reverse orange-white (5A2). CREA : Colonies have weak growth, and acid production is absent.

Conidiophores radiate, splitting into poorly defined columns; Stipes (192–)200–557 × 10–14 µm, smooth, hyaline. Vesicles 28–46 µm diam globose to ellipsoidal, uniseriate. Phialides 6–9 × 3.5– 4 µm flask-shaped and cover the entire surface of the vesicle, covering entire vesicle. Conidia 3.5–5 × 3–4 µm, globose to ellipsoidal, echinulate surface.

Material examined: INDIA, Maharashtra, Velhe-Mangaon, 18.325833°N, 73.521667°E, from soil, 10 August 2023, Harikrishnan K, Ravi Patil & Rajeshkumar KC ( AMH 10693, NFCCI 5752)

Notes: Phylogenetic analyses resolved our strain with others of A. brunneoviolaceus . Jurjević et al. (2012) observed acid production in A. brunneoviolaceus , but acid production on CREA is absent in NFCCI 5752.
