Intermediates between 4 and 5 occur, particularly in the southern Alps and Jugoslavia. Among these are A. dasytrichum (Degen ex Gayer) G. GrinL in Sävulescu, FI. Rep. Pop. Romàne. 2: 506 (1953) and A. platanifolium Degen ex Gayer , Magyar Bot. Lapok 6: 118 (1907).
