Ababa tantilla (LeConte, 1865) ; Thanerocleridae : Thaneroclerinae : Isoclerini

Illustrations: Plate 1-A; Key to thaneroclerid genera, couplet 1-D, couplet 2-A

Distribution: MA to FL to MO and TX and south to Guatemala. A rarely collected species.

- Recorded from: AL, DC, FL, IL, LA, MA, ME, MO, MS, TX, Mexico and Panama ( Wolcott 1910 a, 1947; Papp 1960; Downie & Arnett 1996; Opitz 2018b). Summarized literature records from Brazil and The Philippines ( Corporaal 1939) should be considered questionable since they predated Opitz’ (2018b) revision and were not included therein.

Natural History: Reared from old bracket fungi ( Fomes igniarius ) and found in tobacco bales in The Philippines, Mexico and Brazil ( Corporaal 1939). Leavengood (2008b) reported rearings from shelf fungus ( Phellinus ) infested with minute tree fungus beetles in Florida (from label data). Specimens have also been collected in the fruiting bodies of fungi such as Coriolopsis caperata (Berk.) Murrill ( Polyporaceae ) ( Opitz 2018b).
