GENUS PARATIMEA HALLMANN, 1917

Emended diagnosis: Stelligeridae with encrusting or massive growth form. Choanosomal skeleton lax; encrusting species have hymedesmioid skeletal architecture consisting of erect tylostyles and paratangential tracts of centrotylote or polytylote ectosomal oxea. Massive species have oxeote megascleres, arranged without order. Oxea are also scattered throughout the choanosome in dragmata. Microscleres are smooth-rayed euasters, most abundant in the surface layer. Produce slime on collection.

Type species: Paratimea constellata ( Topsent, 1893) .
