Remarks

We have examined no specimens of this species from Iraq. Augul (2017) and Al-Saffar and Augul (2021) cite Khalaf (1958) as a previous source for the occurrence of this species in Iraq and provide further records, but as visible from the pictures provided by Augul (2017) these records are in fact attributable to Odynerus armeniacus . The data published by Khalaf (1958) cannot be considered reliable, as O. spinipes is a mainly northern species, occurring in central and northern Europe with few isolate records in southern Europe and northern Turkey. Pending further investigation, we exclude O. spinipes from the list of Iraqi Vespidae .
