Revised description. Medium-sized, slender fusiform shell with high spire; apical angle ~50°. Protoconch unknown. Teleoconch of up to six whorls. Suture moderately incised, shallowly undulating. Early teleoconch whorls with broad, weakly concave subsutural ramp, angled shoulder, subcylindrical periphery, constricted below. Axial sculpture of eight prominent, wide-spaced ribs. adis, IP, abis weak, P1 and P2 prominent, slightly swollen over ribs; P1 weakly tuberculate; s1, s2 delicate. Last whorl attaining ~70% of total height; with concave subsutural ramp, weakly angled shoulder, weakly convex periphery, moderately constricted below, with conical base. Eight prominent axial ribs fading over subsutural ramp, persisting onto base. P1–P6 forming prominent, moderately narrow, rounded cords separated by wider interspaces; s1–s6 delicate; ADP, MP more prominent, close-set. Fasciole moderately swollen, relatively narrow, delimiting narrow, shallow pseudoumbilicus. Aperture narrowly ovate. Outer lip thickened with prominent D1–D6. Anal canal moderately incised, poorly delimited. Siphonal canal moderately long, open, moderately narrow, slightly bent to the left. Columella straight, twisted at siphonal canal. Columellar callus forming broad rim, erect at siphonal canal, adherent in parietal area.
Paratethyan synonyms. Murex holubicensis subacarinata Friedberg, 1912 was introduced as subspecies based on its rounded shoulder.
Discussion. This species was listed as Muricopsis by Korobkov (1955) and Vokes (1971). This placement is rejected based on the apertural features. Muricopsis species typically have a prominent ID, an atrophied D1 and a large, knob-like D2 followed by weaker D3–D5. In addition, typical Muricopsis has one or two columellar folds, which are absent in Ocenebra holubicensis ( Friedberg, 1912) .
Paleoenvironment. Shallow marine, inner neritic.
Distribution in Central Paratethys. Badenian (Middle Miocene): Voronyaky Hills: Hołubica (Holubytsia), Podhorce (Pidhirtsi) ( Ukraine). Polish-Ukrainian Fore-Carpathian Basin: Bogucice, Hołdy, Faszczówka, Stary Poczajów, Tarnoruda, Zaleśce (Salisze), Żukowce (Zhukivtsi), Zborów (Zboriv) ( Ukraine) ( Friedberg 1912; 1938).
