Revised description. Medium-sized, very solid, stocky shell with cyrtoconoid early spire; apical angle ~90°, decreasing to ~60° on later spire whorls. Protoconch unknown. Teleoconch of up to five whorls. Early teleoconch whorls low, with very broad, shallow subsutural ramp; shoulder placed just above abapical suture. About ten tubercles along shoulder. High, thin subsutural collar developing on 3 rd to 4 th teleoconch whorl; subsutural ramp becoming steep and strongly concave with numerous flattened spiral cords. Last whorl attaining ~85% of total height, with high subsutural collar, concave subsutural ramp, angled shoulder, weakly convex below, strongly constricted at base. Axial sculpture of four abapically weakening varices with one only slightly weaker intervarical rib; terminal varix flaring, foliaceous. Spiral sculpture: adis, IP, abis, delicate adjoined by subequal tertiary cords; P1–P5 forming prominent, rounded, subequal cords, occasionally terminating in short, pointed tubercles on varices (see Kovács 2020: pl. 2, figs 27–30); P3 sometimes weak; P1 forming trigonal tubercles at shoulder varices; s1–s6 delicate adjoined by tertiary thread on either side; P6, ADP and MP weak. Delicately scabrose growth lines in spiral interspaces. Fasciole moderately swollen, delimiting very broad, shallow pseudoumbilicus. Aperture narrowly ovate; outer lip strongly thickened with very prominent ID, D1–D5, rounded denticles loosely arranged in pairs close behind peristome. Anal canal distinctly incised, moderately narrow; siphonal canal moderately long, fused, straight to slightly bent to the right. Columella straight, smooth, weakly twisted at transition in siphonal canal. Columellar callus forming broad adherent rim, sharply delimited from base.

Paratethyan synonyms. Bałuk (1995) introduced Purpura (Tritonalia) kojumdgievae as new name for the Paratethyan specimens, which had been erroneously treated as Ocinebrina lassaignei (de Basterot, 1825) in the literature. However, Bałuk (1995) overlooked that De Gregorio (1885a) had already introduced Murex lassaignei mirmigus for this species. Therefore, Purpura (Tritonalia) kojumdgievae is an objective junior synonym of Ocenebra mirmigus (De Gregorio, 1885a) .

Discussion. This species is characterized by the allometric growth of its spire, which develops a high subsutural collar and a prominent very broad terminal varix, which is strongly flaring in its adapical half, causing a somewhat subquadratic outline in apertural view. Ocenebra scorpio sp. nov. and Ocenebra vindobonensis (Hörnes, 1853) differ in their prominent spines on the varices. The mode of formation of primary cords, with reduced P2, is comparable to Ocenebra scorpio sp. nov. Specimens of Ocinebrina mirmigus have been incorrectly assigned to Ocinebrina lassaignei (de Basterot, 1825) by several authors since Hörnes (1853). However, they differ quite distinctly in the shorter spire, more convex whorls, weaker shoulder and more prominent axial ribs in O. lassaignei , which lacks a flaring terminal varix (see Lozouet et al. 2001: pl. 23, fig. 8; Goret & Pons 2013: pl. 3, fig. 2). This species group is present from the Lower Miocene to the Pliocene, last represented in the Mediterranean by O. ariesiensis ( Fontannes 1879) . The shells of species within this group are very similar and need to be revised.

Paleoenvironment. Shallow marine, inner neritic.
