Revised description. Medium-sized, stocky ovate shell with conical spire; apical angle ~60–70°. Protoconch unknown. Teleoconch of up to five whorls. Suture distinct, but superficial, linear. Early teleoconch whorls almost straight sided, with faintly concave subsutural ramp.Axial sculpture of about eight broad, low axial ribs, subobsolete over subsutural ramp. Spiral sculpture of broad subsutural cord, narrower, slightly scabrose adis, IP and abis on antepenultimate and penultimate whorls; periphery formed by P1 at abapical suture; P1 swollen over axial ribs. Growth lines in interspaces forming narrowly cancellate pattern. Last whorl attaining ~82% of total height; broad, slightly concave subsutural ramp, angled or rounded shoulder, convex periphery, slowly contracting below. About ten broad, low axial ribs, moderately prominent along shoulder subobsolete above and below. Spiral sculpture relatively weak; broad, low primary ( IP, P1–P6, ADP, MP, ABP) and secondary cords (adis, abis, s1–s6) of subequal strength. Weakly scabrose tertiary threads may be intercalated. Fasciole broad, swollen, twisted, delimiting narrow pseudoumbilicus. Aperture ovate; outer lip thickened, with weakly crenulate edge; broad, ID simple, D1–D6 occasionally bifid, slightly elongated and placed some distance behind peristome. Anal canal moderately incised. Siphonal canal moderately short, moderately narrow, open, straight, weakly recurved. Columella straight, smooth, weakly twisted at siphonal canal. Columellar callus forming broad adherent rim, poorly delimited.
Discussion. Ocinebrinopsis grundensis (Hoernes & Auinger, 1885) is characterized by its solid, ovate shell with relatively weak sculpture of low, band-like cords and bifid denticles (D1–D6) arranged in a well-defined row distinctly behind the peristome. In its outline and apertural features, it is close to Ocinebrinopsis crassilabiata ( Hilber, 1879) , which differs in its much stronger axial and spiral sculpture, and coarser denticles.
Paleoenvironment. At the locality Grund fossiliferous channel fills, which formed in middle to outer neritic environments bear allochthonous assemblages uniting coastal-mudflat faunas with inner neritic ones ( Zuschin et al. 2005; Roetzel 2009). Based on the preservation, Ocinebrinopsis grundensis seems to belong to the fauna from inner neritic environments.
Distribution in Central Paratethys. Badenian (Middle Miocene): North Alpine-Carpathian Foreland Basin: Grund ( Austria) (Hoernes & Auinger 1885); Pannonian Basin: Várpalota ( Hungary) ( Strausz 1966); Herend ( Hungary) ( Kókay 1966).
