Type locality. Grund ( Austria).
Type stratum. Grund Formation.
Age. Middle Miocene, early Badenian (Langhian).
Etymology. apertus, Latin for open, referring to the open siphonal canal.
Diagnosis. Medium-sized, moderately slender fusiform shell with weakly incised suture, deep broad pseudoumbilicus, crenulated outer lip with numerous short lirae starting at peristome, and open siphonal canal.
Description. Medium-sized, moderately slender fusiform shell; apical angle ~55–57°. Protoconch unknown. Teleoconch of up to five whorls. Suture weakly incised, linear to shallowly undulating. Early teleoconch whorls with weakly concave subsutural ramp and shoulder placed around mid-whorl. Axial sculpture of nine broad, prominent ribs, weakening over subsutural ramp. Spiral sculpture of prominent adis, IP, abis, prominent P1 and P2 and weaker s1 on antepenultimate and penultimate whorls; s2 appears at abapical suture. Interspaces narrow with delicately scabrose sculpture. Scabrose subsutural collar appears on fourth teleoconch whorl. Last whorl attaining ~80% of total height; broad, weakly concave subsutural ramp with scabrose subsutural collar and prominent adis, IP and abis; angled shoulder and weakly convex periphery, moderately constricted below. Axial sculpture of ten broad ribs, fading over subsutural ramp and base, prominent along periphery. Regular sculpture of broad, convex, subequal P1–P6; P6 on base convex part of whorl; P1 swollen over axial ribs along shoulder; s1–s6 slightly weaker, recessed, scabrose.ADP, MP, ABP, EAB1 same strength as primary cords. Interspaces between cords narrow. Fasciole strongly swollen, twisted, delimiting broad, deep pseudoumbilicus. Aperture ovate; outer lip not thickened, with crenulate edge; ID simple, D1–D6 usually bifid, lirate starting at peristome, extending short distance within aperture. Anal canal weakly incised; siphonal canal moderately long, moderately wide, open, straight to slightly bent to the left. Columella straight, smooth, weakly twisted at siphonal canal. Columellar callus forming indistinct adherent rim.
Discussion. Ocinebrinopsis aperta might be related to Ocinebrinopsis dominicii sp. nov., which has similar sculpture and an open siphonal canal. They differ in the slenderer shape of O. dominicii , by its narrower pseudoumbilicus and the coarser lirae that are not paired in O. dominicii . Ocinebrinopsis credneri (Hoernes & Auinger, 1885) has a similar profile, but is larger, has prominent denticles in the outer lip, which are not paired, narrower primary cords and a fused siphonal canal. Similarly, Ocinebrinopsis orientalis (Friedberg, 1928) differs from O. aperta in its denticles that are not paired and the fused siphonal canal.
Paleoenvironment. At the locality Grund fossiliferous channel fills, which formed in middle to outer neritic environments bear allochthonous assemblages uniting coastal-mudflat faunas with inner neritic ones ( Zuschin et al. 2005; Roetzel 2009). Based on the preservation, Ocinebrinopsis aperta seems to belong to the fauna from inner neritic environments.
Distribution in Central Paratethys. Badenian (Middle Miocene): North Alpine-Carpathian Foreland Basin: Grund ( Austria) (hoc opus).
