Type locality. Lăpugiu de Sus ( Romania), Făget Basin .

Type stratum. Silt and clay of the Dej Formation.

Age. Middle Miocene, early/middle Badenian (Langhian).

Etymology. In honor of Stefano Dominici (Museum of Natural History, University of Florence, Italy) in recognition of his contributions to Mediterranean Neogene conchology.

Diagnosis. Medium-sized, slender fusiform shell with high spire, concave subsutural ramp, marked shoulder and regular sculpture of prominent primary cords and only slightly weaker secondary cords, short lirae in outer lip, siphonal canal moderately long, open.

Description. Medium-sized, slender fusiform shell with high spire; apical angle 42–46°. Protoconch unknown. Teleoconch of up to six whorls. Suture moderately incised, very shallowly undulating. Early teleoconch whorls convex, faintly shouldered with ten prominent axial ribs overrun by three prominent spiral cords (IP, P1, P2). Spiral cords swollen over intersections with axial ribs. Later spire whorls with narrow, scabrose subsutural collar, weakly concave subsutural ramp, angled shoulder, weakly convex below. Axial ribs fading over subsutural ramp. Subsutural ramp with prominent adis, IP and abis on antepenultimate and penultimate whorls and delicate tertiary thread between abis and P1. P1 slightly swollen over axial ribs, P2 prominent, s1, s2 slightly weaker, P3 and s3 appear at abapical suture on penultimate whorl. Last whorl attaining ~72–75% of total height, with marked shoulder, moderately constricted below. Ten broad axial ribs, weakening over subsutural ramp and fading over base. Regular spiral sculpture of prominent adis, IP, abis, P1–P6 (P6 on base of convex part of whorl), ADP, MP, ABP, EAB1 with only slightly weaker s1–s6. Interspaces and spiral cords weakly scabrose on subsutural ramp; faint growth lines in interspaces on base. Fasciole distinctly swollen, twisted, delimiting deep pseudoumbilicus. Aperture moderately narrow, ovate. Outer lip with finely crenulate edge, ID, D1–D6 lirate starting close behind peristome; D1 simple, D2–D6 occasionally bifid. Anal canal shallowly incised on adapical tip of aperture, moderately wide. Siphonal canal long, open, rarely partly fused, narrow, slightly deflected to the left, weakly dorsally recurved. Columellar callus forming broad, adherent rim, erect at siphonal canal.

Discussion. Specimens described here as Ocinebrinopsis dominicii sp. nov. were previously assigned by most authors to Ocinebrina dertonensis ( Bellardi, 1873) , which was described from the Tortonian of Italy. Both species have a comparably slender shell and a prominent shoulder. Early whorls, however, differ distinctly. Ocinebrinopsis dertonensis develops a steep subsutural ramp and marked shoulder placed below mid-whorl with prominent P1, accompanied by a prominent P2 on the third to fourth teleoconch whorls. Ocinebrinopsis dominicii sp. nov. has a shallower ramp, a rounded shoulder placed above mid-whorl, a weaker P1 and distinct s1 and s2 at the same growth stage (see Bellardi 1873: pl. 7, figs 12a–b; d’Amico et al. 2012: pl. 3, fig. 30–32; Dominici et al. 2020: figs 11/K–I for O. dertonensis ). Ocinebrina dertonensis of Caprotti (2011: pl. 6, figs O–P) is neither O. dertonensis nor O. dominicii as circumscribed herein and differs from both species clearly in its much wider apical angle.

Ocinebrinopsis dertonensis was placed in Heteropurpura Jousseaume, 1880 by Brunetti et al. (2012: 104) and Dominici et al. (2020: 70) based on its open siphonal canal. The Pliocene type species Heteropurpura polymorpha ( Brocchi, 1814) , shows a club-shaped shell with long siphonal canal and very prominent P1. It has little in common with Ocinebrinopsis dertonensis and we reject this placement.

For comparison with Ocinebrinopsis aperta sp. nov., see that species.
