Phyllocoma michelottii ( Bellardi, 1873) View in CoL — Kovács 2020: 459, pl. 4, figs 19–21 [non Phyllocoma michelottii sensu Lozouet et al. 1994 View in CoL ].
Material. One specimen in private collection, SL: 23 mm, MD: 14 mm, illustrated in Kovács (2020: pl. 4, figs 19–21).
Discussion. Phyllocoma michelottii ( Bellardi, 1873) is based on a single apertural fragment from Rio della Batteria ( Italy), Langhian (Middle Miocene) ( Bellardi 1873: 245, pl. 15, figs 22a–b). The holotype seems to be lost and was not mentioned by Ferrero Mortara et al. (1981). Later, the understanding of this species was shaped by the specimens described and illustrated by Lozouet et al. (1994, 2001) from the Late Oligocene and Early Miocene of the northeastern Atlantic ( Lozouet et al. 1994: 47, pl. 2 figs 10–11; Lozouet et al. 2001: 59, pl. 24, fig. 7; Lozouet 2023: text-fig. 7, f–j). It remains unclear if these specimens are conspecific with the Proto-Mediterranean ones. From the Paratethys, a fragmentary specimen from Letkés ( Hungary) was available to Kovács (2020). This specimen differs from those illustrated by Lozouet et al. (1994, 2001) in its broader spire whorls and narrower subsutural ramp of the last whorl. We assume that the Paratethyan shell represents a yet undescribed species. This Paratethyan species is characterized by a large paucispiral protoconch of 1.5 whorls with a bulbous last whorl.
Paleoenvironment. Shallow marine, inner neritic.
Distribution in Central Paratethys. Badenian (Middle Miocene): Pannonian Basin: Letkès ( Hungary) ( Kovács 2020).
