Type material. Lectotype (designated by Landau et al. 2007: 17): B.S.009.02.017, SL: 38 mm, MD: 17 mm, Museo Regionale di Scienze Naturali Torino, Italy; S. Agata ( Italy, Tortonian (Late Miocene), illustrated in Ferrero Mortara et al. (1981: pl. 2, fig. 4). Paralectotypes: B.S.009.02.018, B.S.009.02.019, S. Agata ( Italy, Tortonian (Late Miocene).

Illustrated material. NHMW 1864/0001/0347, SL: 28.6 mm, MD: 15.9 mm, Jaroměřice ( Czech Republic), illustrated in Hoernes & Auinger (1885: pl. 29, figs 7a–b), Figs 68A View FIGURE 68 1 –A View FIGURE 1 3 View FIGURE 3 . Revised description. Medium-sized (based on Italian material; only small partial or juvenile specimens available from Paratethys), fusiform, trivaricate shell; apical angle 38–45°. Protoconch unknown. Teleoconch of up to seven whorls (based on Italian material). Suture moderately incised, linear. Early teleoconch whorls weakly convex. Three winged varices and three prominent intervarical ribs. Spiral sculpture; faint P1 and s1 on penultimate whorl. Varices aligned along shell axis, offset by about 9° between whorls. Last whorl attaining ~70% of total height, strongly convex, moderately constricted; spiral sculpture reduced to weak, narrow, cords, most prominent on strongly flaring wings. P1–P6, s1, s2 of subequal strength; fasciole absent. Apertural features not preserved in Paratethyan material. Italian specimens have narrowly ovate aperture. Outer lip thickened with insignificant denticles D1 to D4. Anal canal wide, weakly incised. Siphonal canal long, open, narrow, weakly deflected to the left; tip slightly dorsally recurved. Columella weakly excavated, smooth. Columellar callus forming broad rim, weakly erect at siphonal canal, adherent in parietal area.

Discussion. This species is documented from Paratethyan assemblages by only two incomplete specimens. Compared to the Mediterranean ones illustrated in Ferrero Mortara et al. (1981: pl. 2, figs 3–4), the Paratethyan specimens have weaker spiral sculpture and a wider spire angle. They may turn out to represent a new species, but the very limited and fragmentary material does not allow solving this question.

Paleoenvironment. Unknown; probably middle to outer neritic environments.

Distribution in Central Paratethys. North Alpine-Carpathian Foreland Basin: Jaroměřice, Lysice ( Czech Republic) (Hoernes & Auinger 1885).

Proto-Mediterranean Sea. Burdigalian (Early Miocene): Colli Torinesi: Valle dei Ceppi ( Italy) ( Bellardi 1873); Tortonian (Late Miocene): Po Basin: S. Agata, Stazzano, Savona alle Fornaci ( Italy) ( Bellardi 1873).
