Ibicella lutea (Lindl.) Van Eselt. View in CoL
A Cm: Crimea: Yalta Raion, Vidradne (Otradnoe) settlement, 44.50867°N, 34.22929°E, 98 m, along edge of path near greenhouse complex, seeds likely introduced accidentally with plant remains, 10 Sep 1997, Levon (photo: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/50380108) GoogleMaps ; ibid., 44.506658°N, 34.229461°E, 55 m, 150 m from previously cited place, on slope among thermophilous submediterranean scrub, several plants observed over several seasons from 1998 to 2000, Levon obs GoogleMaps .
A Uk: Ukraine: Khmelnytskyi Oblast, outskirts of Slavuta city, 50°18'N, 26°52'E, 215 m, one casual plant in a garbage dump, 15 Jun 2019, Musin obs. – These are the first records of this species of South American origin from Crimea and Ukraine. It was introduced to Europe and North America as an ornamental plant with collectible fruits (strange, curved-horned capsules), more often accidentally introduced with wool (epizoochory, Thellung 1912; Rebbas 2020). As an alien plant, it is known in areas with a warm-temperate climate in North America, Europe, W and S Asia, N and S Africa and Australia ( Rebbas 2020, POWO 2024o). In Europe, it has been reported as occasional in France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Hungary and Greece ( Thellung 1912; Verloove 2006; Lambinon & Verloove 2012; Dimopoulos & al. 2013; Tison & al. 2014; Raab-Straube 2018b +; Rebbas 2020). There is no reliable information on the cultivation of Ibicella lutea in Ukraine, but the kind of habitats where it has been found indicates that the plants were likely discarded from a garden, with the status of a shortlived casual escape.
