Salicornia europaea View in CoL is absent from these two Med-Checklist areas, and is confined to the Atlantic and Baltic coasts of Europe ( Kadereit & al. 2007, 2012). Recently published evidence for S. europaea View in CoL in Albania ( Vangjeli 2015; Pils 2016; Barina & al. 2017, 2018) is misleading, referring in fact to the diploid S. perennans Willd. subsp. perennans View in CoL and the tetraploid S. procumbens Sm. subsp. procumbens View in CoL ; for field characters and ecological differences between the two taxa in Albania see Fanelli & al. (2015: 131–132). The illustration in Pils (2016: P135-7, as “ S. europaea View in CoL ”) depicts S. procumbens subsp. procumbens View in CoL in its typical red-coloured autumnal aspect. Records of S. europaea View in CoL from the Black Sea coast of Bulgaria ( Assyov & al. 2012: 360) likewise refer to S. perennans subsp. perennans View in CoL , which occurs there sympatrically with S. procumbens View in CoL ( Assyov & al. 2012, sub S. ramosissima View in CoL ); the morphologically deviating S. perennans subsp. altaica (Lomon.) G. Kadereit & Piirainen View in CoL is confined to C Asia. The circum-Adriatic absence of S. europaea View in CoL s. str. is likewise confirmed by Bartolucci & al. (2018: 243) and Stešević & al.
