ETYMOLOGY

Named after Ivory Coast, from where the only specimens came from.

DESCRIPTION

14–16 mm, length of the forebody 6.5 mm. Coloration: body black with margin of the tergites VIII reddish, abdomen slightly iridescent. Legs, palps, antennae and abdominal segment IX orange. Head with dense macropunctation on the posterior part, partly confluent. The smoother V-shaped line on the head of intermediate size, anterior to this with scattered big punctures, and sparse small punctures. Head with no microsculpture. Labrum with a shallow median circular excision. Mandibles each with a rather short and apically weakly bifid median tooth. Pronotum with parallel sides, about 2.1 mm wide and 2.25 mm long, macropunctation very dense with some scattered micropunctation and without microsculpture, near the posterior part with a smooth middle line. Elytra about 2.3 mm wide and 2.7 mm long, punctation dense, without microsculpture. Wings well developed. Abdomen with microsculpture. Posterior margin of sternite VIII truncate in males.

Aedeagus about 3.25 mm. Parameres only near the base near each other, near the base in ventral view with an inwards blunt angle, tip rather pointed. Dorsal side of the median lobe only slightly curved. Tip of the median lobe flat and rounded-triangular. Keels before the tip sharp, lateral part of the median lobe near the keels broad. Basal protrusion rather broad, slightly directed towards the base.

COMMENTS

Externally not distinguishable from Pinocolis senegalensis and Pinocolis krelli . Identification is only reliable with aedeagus.

In several locations this species is found together with P. krelli . When the two species are mixed, the females could not be identified.
