COMMENTS
This species was described as a variation of P. aegyptius from a single individual from Suberbieville, a location only found on old maps just near Maevatanana, Madagascar. This seems to be a distinct species from P. aegyptius . According to the ICZN, varieties proposed at that time are now considered as subspecies, which makes this the oldest valid name. ASSING (2022) already placed P. punctatulus and P. densior as valid species instead of synonyms of P. aegyptius . P. constrictus is properly described and can be recognized as the same species based on this description. P. auctior , after examination of a paratype from the collection of Volker Assing ( NHMW) found to be the same species. The ♂ studied is a smaller individual but still in the range of natural variation of this species. The type of P. densior was found in the museum of Tervuren, it is a female, but with the typical external features of P. punctatulus . Also two additional males of the same location and date are present in this collection, which can confirm that this is P. punctatulus .
