Key to the species of Pinachenium View in CoL
1. Eyes about 1.3 times as long as the part behind the eye until the angle of the posterior part of the head. Largest species, pronotum 2.5 mm wide. Only known from Somalia..................... ............................................................................................. pseudabessinum ( Gridelli, 1928)
– Eyes larger, at least twice as long as the part behind the eye until the angle of the posterior part of the head...................................................................................................................... 2
2. Larger, dark species, forebody 6 mm, pronotum 1.9–2.1 mm wide... abessinum ( Bernhauer, 1915)
– Smaller species, forebody up to 5 mm, pronotum up to 1.75 mm wide ............................... 3
3. Micropunctation on the head only abundant on the tempora. Macropunctation on the head more numerous, punctation on the head more evenly distributed and the V-shaped smoother line hardly visible. Eyes smaller, about 3 times as long as the part behind the eye until the angle of the posterior part of the head. Reddish, smaller species: pronotum 1.4 mm wide ........................................................................................................ nitidum sp. nov.
– Micropunctation at least more abundant at the inner side of the eyes, macropunctation leaving a clear V or Ψ-shaped zone on the head without macropunctation. Eyes larger ................... 4
4. Eyes smaller, about 4–5 times as long as the part behind the eye until the angle of the posterior part of the head. Mostly the whole head with numerous micropunctures, in the middle only slightly less dense compared with the posterior part of the head, several individuals with only dense micropunctation on the posterior part of the head, PW: 1.5– 1.75 ..................................................................................... longicorne ( Baudi di Selve, 1848)
– Eyes large, about 8 times as long as the part behind the eye until the angle of the posterior part of the head. The middle of the head almost blank: with some scattered micropunctures, micropunctures a lot denser at the sides and the posterior part of the head. From Tanzania to Sudan................................................................................................... insolitum ( Fagel, 1963)
