Listed by Sherborn (1928: 3774) as an 1836 Deshayes species, this fissurellid had its origin as Patella macroschisma [Lightfoot], 1786, who cited a still-earlier figure. It is the type species (M) of Macroschisma J. E. Gray, 1835 . Although the type species itself is a nomen dubium, there are several well documented species in this genus.
