Holotype: not known to exist, not found at BMNH in 2005; type locality: unknown .
Original rank: species. Current rank and status: synonym of S. morsitans L., 1758 ( Kohlrausch 1878, 1879, 1881; Haase 1887; Kraepelin 1903; Brölemann 1909; Attems 1930), although Kraepelin and Attems credited the species to Koch (1863 b) rather than 1847.
