Holotype (BMNH [D. Mann, pers. comm.; examined]); type locality: unknown .
Original rank: species. Current rank and status: uncertain synonym of S. subspinipes Leach, 1815 ( Brölemann 1909, Bücherl 1942 a). Kohlrausch (1878, 1879, 1881), Kraepelin (1903), and Attems (1930) regarded S. childreni as a synonym of S. subspinipes dehaani Brandt, 1840 .
Remarks: This name was omitted by Bücherl (1974).
