Holotype: not known to exist, not present at MNHP (J.J. Geoffroy, pers. comm.), not found in 2005; type locality: Cayenne, French Guiana.
Original rank: species. Current rank and status: valid species ( Bücherl 1942 a). Kohlrausch (1878, 1879, 1881) thought melinonii required further characterization; Kraepelin (1903) thought it might be referrable to Otostigmus ; and Attems (1930) cited it as an unrecognizable species.

Distribution: type locality. Maps: none.
Remarks: The name was misspelled as “ melionii ” by Kraepelin (1903) and was omitted by Bücherl (1974).
