Holotype (MHNG [P. Schwendinger, pers. comm.; examined]); type locality: Mexican plateau.

Original rank: species. Current rank and status: synonym of S. viridis Say, 1821 ( Kraepelin 1903, Attems 1930, Brölemann 1909, Bücherl 1942 a, Shelley 2002).

Anatomical illustrations: Saussure (1960, pl. 6, figs. 41, 41a, c, t), Saussure & Humbert (1872, pl. 5, figs. 10, 14).

Distribution: the environs of Puebla, Puebla Edo., Mexico ( Saussure & Humbert 1872).

Remarks: Scolopendra azteca was omitted by Bücherl (1974).
