cubensis Saussure, 1860:129 View in CoL .
Syntypes (3 specimens, MHNG [P. Schwendinger, pers. comm.; examined]); type locality: Cuba.
Original rank: species. Current rank and status: synonym of S. alternans Leach, 1815 ( Kraepelin 1903, Attems 1930, Shelley 2002). Pocock (1893) thought S. cubensis was “probably referrable to S. morsitans ,” and Bücherl (1942 a) considered it to be a valid species; I confirm the synonymy with S. alternans .
Anatomical illustrations: Saussure (1860, pl. 7, figs. 47, 47a, c, p, t), Saussure & Humbert (1872, pl. 5, fig. 11).
Remarks: This name was omitted by Bücherl (1974).
