Holotype (BMNH [D. Mann, pers. comm.; examined]); type locality: not provided in the original description, stated as Brazil by Newport (1845).
Original rank: species. Current rank and status: synonym of S. morsitans ( Kohlrausch 1878, 1879, 1881; Kraepelin 1903; Brölemann 1909; Attems 1930; Bücherl 1942 a).
Remarks: This name was omitted by Bücherl (1974).
